Job Summary: Independently plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure for mother baby patients Provides direct nursing care, assumes teaching and leadership responsibilities, and participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities Needs minimal supervision Responsibilities: Performs thorough admission assessment, utilizes appropriate interview techniques to obtain history within the time frame of unit policy, and assesses age-specific needs to patient population served Assesses barriers to learning and utilizes findings, prioritizes patient needs, and identifies standards of care common to patient population while evaluating data Delegates patient care to other team members within their scope of practice, administers medication safely and accurately, and initiates and coordinates patient/family teaching using individualized effective teaching methods Evaluates outcomes of care to determine if patient needs were met, addresses unresolved needs in discharge planning, and documents clearly and consistently in the EMR Uses verbal and nonverbal communication to interact effectively with patients, families, peers, superiors, and physicians, and provides feedback regarding problems and complaints while using chain-of-command for problem-solving and conflict resolution Prioritizes patient treatment to best meet patient needs, completes care assignments efficiently, and utilizes resources while familiar with unit-specific policies and procedures Activetly assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget Attends courses and in-services offered, maintains clinical skills specifically required on the unit, and utilizes security systems for infant and pediatric safety
