Job Title: Physician Assistant Location: Fayetteville VA Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC Experience: Minimum of 2 years Job Description: We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Physician Assistant to join our healthcare team at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive Family Practice and interventional Family Practice consultative services to Veterans. This role involves direct patient care, including assessment, diagnostic work-up, clinic intervention, and patient education within the Primary Care team setting. Key Responsibilities: Clinical Duties: Clinic Appointments and Follow-Up: Manage clinic appointments and follow-up on labs, imaging, and procedures ordered during these appointments. Interpretation and Consultation: Interpret test results and provide phone call consultations with hospitalists and intensivists for inpatient care. Available for case reviews with nurse practitioners on service. Assessment and Diagnostic Work-Up: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, health histories, and physical examinations. Patient Education: Educate patients regarding their health, treatments, and preventive care. Order and Evaluate Tests: Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, recommend treatments, and/or referrals as appropriate. Documentation: Record and document health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plans of care, ongoing management, and therapeutic outcomes using the electronic Comprehensive Patient Record System (CPRS). Ensure documentation is completed on the day of the patient encounter. Clinic Responsibilities: Punctuality: Be present and on time for clinic start times, ensuring physical presence at the clinic at the scheduled start time. Communication of Test Results: Ensure mechanisms are in place to notify patients of test results in accordance with VHA Directive 1088. Medication Management: Policy Adherence: Follow all established medication policies and procedures. Do not provide sample medications to patients. Discharge Education: Follow-Up Instructions: Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients. Administrative Duties: Meeting Participation: Dedicate approximately 5% of time to non-direct patient care activities including section meetings, peer review case reviews, Ongoing Providers Performance Evaluation (OPPE) participation, and morbidity & mortality conferences. Quality Improvement: Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and required committee meetings. Staff Meetings: Attend staff meetings as required by the facility Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee. Communicate with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) about any conflicts. Quality Assurance Documentation: Complete appropriate Quality Management/Performance Improvement documentation for all procedures, complications, and outcomes. Patient Safety Compliance: Safety Standards: Adhere to all established patient safety and infection control standards. Error Prevention: Make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injuries. Incident Reporting: Document all events related to patient injury or safety breaches in the medical record and disclose them to the patient or surrogate. Notify COR of any incidents within 24 hours and submit an entry in the VA Patient Safety Reporting System. Compliance Awareness Training: Complete Compliance Awareness Training prior to accessing the Fayetteville VA Coastal Health Care System. Report any fraud, waste, and abuse witnessed on VA premises to the Compliance Officer. Qualifications: Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant in a clinical setting. Education: Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Licensure: Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant. Certifications: Current BLS and ACLS certification. Skills: Strong clinical skills in family practice, excellent communication and documentation skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, and proficiency in using electronic medical records.
