Emergency Sessional Lecturer Position APS112 – Engineering Strategies and Practice II Winter Term 2024 (January – April) Course number and title: APS112H1: Engineering Strategies & Practice II Course description: This course introduces and provides a framework for the design process, problem solving and project management. Students are introduced to communication as an integral component of engineering practice. The course is a vehicle for practicing team skills and developing communications skills. Building on the first course, this second course in the two Engineering Strategies and Practice course sequence introduces students to project management and to the design process in greater depth. Students work in teams on a term length design project. Students will write a series of technical reports and give a team based design project presentation. Estimated course enrolment: 1000 students Estimated TA support: 33 Class schedule: Tuesday/Thursday 9 am Class schedule: Check ttb. utoronto. ca Sessional dates of appointment: January 2024 – April 2024 Salary: 1.00 HCE rate. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Minimum qualifications: The candidate is required to attend a virtual weekly teaching team meeting on Mondays from 9-11 am. Excellent communication skills. Ability to facilitate team discussion and mediate team conflict. Ability to coach junior engineering students (In person). Description of duties: This is not your typical lecturing role. As an engineering Manager; this role instead will be about coaching undergraduate students in professionalism, project management, and teamwork. The only marking will be to evaluate many aspects of individual student contributions to a team design project; providing feedback, but not grading, of written design reports; facilitating student team meetings; responding to student.
